Testing the performance and toughness of servo gripper is crucial to ensure we meet the required specs and provide the highest degree of reliability required for industrial automation.

Last month the Robotiq engineering team was at CRVI (Robotics Center and Industrial Vision) to test our new products, the 2-Finger Adaptive Robot Gripper - 200 (Get the data sheet, click here).

We began our day with simple proofing and testing of the 2-Finger Adaptive Robot Gripper - 200 capabilities, picking various pieces with a Fanuc M-710i C robot. The robot gripper's ability is amazing. Watching the big robot with the massive gripper picking small parts, parts of various size and testing the payload was a lot of fun. Our calculated payload for this new end effector was around 40 pounds. The tests revealed that the servo gripper was picking the 40 pound weight (on a small contact surface) with abundant ease (update: we reviewed our calculations and the payload is now up to 50 lbs with a generous margin for safety). Watch the video to see it live.

The second part of the test for the 2-Finger Adaptive Robot Gripper - 200 involved its repeatability (if anyone has questions about repeatability, see one of our older blog post). This is where the CRVI expertise was helpful, using their vision system, we were able to measure within 0.03mm, the position of our large industrial gripper while in use. Lets get straight to the numbers we want to know : 0.03mm repeatability, this is only 1/1000 of an inch!

In my next post be ready to discover the results of our endurance benchmarking (the 2-Finger adaptive robot gripper - 85 has reached the 10 millions cycle mark, will the 200 model beat it?), as well as the testing of the airtightness of the casing and further testing of the payload.
