On August 22nd Robotic Industries Association (RIA) offered another of their monthly educational webinars. The subject matter for this particular webinar was 'Advanced Gripper and End Effector Designs' and Robotiq is glad to be able to be one of the sponsors for this webinar, as well as for an upcoming one on Robotic welding.
Mr Adil Shafi, from Advenovation presented this webinar. He spoke a bit about the benefits of automation and then explained a variety of new vacuum based end effectors. He also discussed their sensing, energy management and compliance techniques with regards to various types of materials.
Several of the applications for which he had demonstration videos stood out. One in particular that he was working on and that is still in the development stage from Piaf, seemed to be a rather delicate operation designed for fruit picking, which as you can imagine requires a gentle but secure touch.
Also there was a video showing a new application from Grabit, inc. involving electroadhesion and several other applications generally involving electromagnetic techniques.
The really interesting part about watching a webinar is that it is a great way to view several different products and designs at the same time, though not every different type of end effector could be presented in this webinar. Still for someone interested in being introduced to some of what is available, as well as seeing some new and up coming technologies, this is a good way to get started.
So, if you still want to view this webinar from RIA click here, as it is still available for a limited time.
Obviously there are a lot of different applications out there and not every robotic gripper design is the right match for every application, which is why Robotiq put together its ROI calculator to help you determine what is the best robot gripper for your application. Check that out too!
