Self-Adaptive-Robot-Auxiliary-Hand in Popular Science

Popular Science carries an article about SARAH (Self-Adaptive Robot Auxiliary Hand), because it’s part of Dextre’s toolbox. Dextre is a robotic torso that will reside at the tip of CANADARM-2 on the International Space Station. SARAH is the hand created by the resident inventor at Laval University’s robotics lab, Thierry Laliberté. Its mechanism naturally adapts to an object’s shape without complicated controls. Its sturdiness makes it ideal for space missions. SARAH’s little brother, the BMT (Blanket Manipulation Tool), which can remove a thermal protective cover so that the satellite can be maintained, is also in Dextre’s toolbox, as shown in the magazine. SARAH has a cousin in the United Kingdom, SARAH-UK, that handles radioactive waste. It also inspired our Robotiq Adaptive Gripper for industrial applications.
