A Korean Cobot to Compete With Universal Robots?

Hanwha Techwin a leader in robotic technologies has announced their first collaborative robots. The HCR-5 is the first cobot produced by the Korean company. It has the potential to compete with the Universal Robots series.
With a slick look, a lightweight structure and a greater reach, it seems like the HCR-5 can really compete the UR5 from the Danish Universal Robots. As both robot has the exact same tool plate, it seems like all the tooling that can be fit on a UR5 can also be fitted on the new HCR-5.
“We expect that the launch of Hanwha Techwin’s collaborative robot can serve as the momentum for Korea’s robot industry to grow,” said Hanwha Techwin CEO Shin Hyun-Woo at the robot’s launching event. “We are committed to investing continuously in the robot business and make inroads into Asia, Europe and the wider global market.”
Even if the robot still has its proof to do, they already have some good feedback from the industry. In fact, the robot won the Germany’s iF Design Award 2017, one of the world’s top three design awards, for its product design.
We are looking forward to have some feedback from end-users and see how the whole system is working in real life. In the mean time if you need inspiration for collaborative robots, you can take a look at the Cobots Buyer's Guide we recently updated.
