Understanding Copilot License Types for CB-Series and e-Series Universal Robots

Learn which Copilot features are available based on your robot model and license type

 

This article explains the different Copilot license types available for CB-Series and e-Series Universal Robots. It shows how Copilot features are unlocked for each robot series, what’s included with each type, how to identify your license, and how to download the URCap. This helps you use the right tools for your application.

1. What is a Copilot License?

A Copilot license unlocks advanced nodes and features that help your robot perform complex tasks more efficiently, such as force control, collision detection, and path generation.

2. License Types by UR Robot Series

✅ CB-Series Universal Robots

  • Compatibility: CB-Series robots use the FT 300 / FT 300-S Force Torque Sensor to unlock Copilot features.

  • Features: The FT 300-S unlocks all available Copilot functionalities except Linear Axis move and Palletizer.

  • No separate USB license: For CB-Series, there are no dongle licenses. The sensor alone unlocks the features.

✅ e-Series Universal Robots

  • Compatibility: e-Series robots use the full line of Force Copilot licenses, which are provided on USB dongles.

  • License types:

    • Force Copilot: CP-FORCE-ES-UR-KIT

    • Machine Tending Copilot: CP-MT-ES-UR-KIT

    • Finishing Copilot: CP-FIN-ES-UR-KIT

    • Material Handling Copilot: Only when purchasing the Robotiq Palletizing Solution

Force Copilot Licenses sold before June 22nd, 2019, are detected by the robot as "Demo Copilot".

  • Each license dongle unlocks different nodes and features.

Important:
Copilot licenses for e-Series robots are stored on USB dongles and are non-transferable. You cannot copy or move a license to another dongle or a blank USB. It’s like a car key — if you lose it, you’ll need to buy a replacement license.

4. How to Check Which License You Have

  • CB-Series: Confirm that your FT 300-S Force Torque Sensor is connected — this determines your Copilot features.

  • e-Series:

    • Look for the sticker on your USB license dongle. It shows which Copilot license you have.

    • If there is no sticker, check the serial number on the silver USB connector (starts with “3-.........”).

    • Contact Robotiq Support with this serial number — we’ll tell you exactly which license you have.

5. How to Download the Copilot URCap

To use your Copilot features, make sure you have the correct URCap installed for your robot’s Polyscope version.

✅ This applies to both CB-Series (FT 300 / FT 300-S) and e-Series (Force Copilot dongles).

How to download:

  1. Visit robotiq.com/support

  2. Go to Force Copilot → Universal Robots → Software

  3. Click the download link that matches your Polyscope version

  4. Install the URCap on your robot as described in the user manual
