A step-by-step guide for properly adding or removing a URCap.
Context
This article explains how to install or uninstall a URCap on a Universal Robots (UR) robot. A URCap is a software plugin that adds specific functionality to your robot, such as hardware integration or new commands.
Important: Some URCaps are downloaded as ZIP folders containing multiple files. To ensure successful installation, you must extract the .urcap
file before copying it to your USB drive. The robot will not recognize a zipped folder.

✅ 1. Download the URCap

Download the URCap package from the supplier’s website (e.g., Robotiq’s Support Page).
✅ 2. Check if the file is zipped

Locate the downloaded file on your computer.

If it is a
.zip
folder, extract the contents first. -
Inside, you will see the actual
.urcap
file and possibly other files (like Release Notes). -
Only copy the
.urcap
file to your USB drive.
✅ 3. Copy the .urcap
file to a USB drive

Use a USB drive formatted to FAT32, if possible.
✅ 4. Insert the USB drive into the UR controller

Plug the USB stick into the robot’s teach pendant or controller.
✅ 5. Install the URCap in Polyscope
For CB-Series robots:

On the robot’s teach pendant, open the Setup Robot tab.

Navigate to URCaps Setup.

Click + Add URCap and select the
.urcap
file from your USB drive. -
Restart Polyscope if prompted.
For e-Series robots:

On the teach pendant, tap the hamburger menu (☰) in the top-right corner.

Go to Settings > System > URCaps.

✅ 6. How to uninstall a URCap
For CB-Series robots:

Open Setup Robot > URCaps > Manage URCaps.

Select the URCap you want to remove.

Click - Remove URCap.

Restart Polyscope if needed.
For e-Series robots:

Tap the hamburger menu (☰) in the top-right corner.

Navigate to Settings > System > URCaps.

Tap the URCap you want to remove.

Tap - Remove URCap.

Restart Polyscope if needed.
