Error - How to Resolve the RTDE Error Message When Using Copilot
Disable a specific Copilot function to fix RTDE errors caused by Ethernet/IP incompatibility
Context
When using Robotiq Copilot on Universal Robots, users may sometimes encounter an “RTDE Error Message” during operation. This issue often results from a conflict between Copilot and an active Ethernet/IP connection. This article explains how to resolve the issue using a setting available in Copilot’s URCap.
Information
-
The RTDE (Real-Time Data Exchange) error usually occurs when Ethernet/IP is active while using Copilot.
-
A setting was introduced in a previous Copilot URCap release to help mitigate this issue.
Steps to Fix the RTDE Error
-
Open the Installation tab on the robot.
-
Navigate to:
URCaps > Copilot > Configuration -
Find the setting:
“Use Copilot to manage a soft speed transition when resuming from a Safeguard Stop.” -
Disable this setting by unchecking the box.
Conclusion
Disabling the soft speed transition setting in Copilot helps avoid RTDE errors caused by Ethernet/IP conflicts. This fix is effective in most cases where the error appears during robot resume operations.
