How to adapt Plug and Play with UR20

The bolt pattern is different between a UR20 and  other Universal Robot model ( UR3,UR5,UR10...).

Context
The UR20 robot from Universal Robots has a different end-effector bolt pattern compared to other UR models. This article explains how to install standard Robotiq Plug and Play kits on a UR20 using the included or optional adapter plate.

Information

UR20 Bolt Pattern

  • The UR20 features a non-standard bolt pattern that does not directly match Robotiq’s Plug and Play kits.

  • Universal Robots supplies an adapter plate with the UR20 robot that converts its flange to a standard 50 mm PCD bolt pattern (4 × M6 screws).

Installing Robotiq Kits on UR20

  • You can use any standard Robotiq Plug and Play kit for UR.

  • These kits will fit the UR20 as long as the adapter plate is installed.

  • This ensures full mechanical compatibility with Robotiq’s wrist-mountable devices.

If the Adapter Plate is Missing

  • If your UR20 did not come with an adapter plate, you can order it from Robotiq:

    • Part number: ACC-APL-UR20

Conclusion

Robotiq Plug and Play kits are compatible with the UR20 when using the adapter plate provided by UR. If the plate is missing, simply order the replacement to enable mounting.
