Robotiq Wrist Camera Gets Performance Updates

Written by David Maltais | Jun 07, 2017 9:00 AM

Robotiq’s wrist camera is about to celebrate its first anniversary! This unique product was launched in June 2016 to bring a Plug + Play vision system for UR collaborative robots. Since then, its 5-minute setup time has impressed many manufacturers from every horizon. The fact that no coding is required to operate the camera was another important part of this product’s success.

But this was only the beginning. The Wrist Camera now offers performance updates that will make it faster and more efficient while many new features will allow you to accomplish more with it.

Improved Speed and Accuracy

The vision system can now locate many 2D shapes (circles, rectangles, squares and rings) without any scanning. With a simple input of the shape’s dimensions, the system is able to recognize parts with few distinctive features, which is perfect for CNC machine tending, for example. We call it the parametric teaching method, see how it works:

We’ve also accelerated the vision process by adding a quick cycle time setting. This brings vision processing to speeds twice faster compared to the previous version.

By improving the calibration procedure, we’ve brought pick and place accuracy to a new level, allowing the vision system to move objects a lot more precisely.

An Improved Toolbox

Each of these updates redefines the possibilities and improves the effectiveness of every Robotiq Wrist Camera application. This Vision System, made to work specifically with Universal Robots, is a very good fit with the Robotiq 2-Finger Gripper. This combo of Robotiq products is ideal for machine tending, pick & place, plus packing & unpacking in so many different types and sizes of factories.

Stay tuned for more improvements on our products in the next few weeks. For more info on the Robotiq Wrist Camera, visit the product page, and take a look at our Vision Systems for Collaborative Robots eBook!
