Printing Visual Offset tags from a PDF file

Understanding the limitation and how it affects tag reusability with Robotiq’s Camera

Context

When using the Robotiq Wrist Camera for positioning or part detection, the Visual Offset tag plays a key role in providing precise reference points. Some users may try to print these tags from a PDF file to replicate or reuse them, but the printed version does not work as expected.

Expected Behavior vs. Actual Behavior

  • Expected: Users hope to print the tag themselves and reuse it for Visual Offset detection.

  • Actual: The tag does not appear correctly or fails to be detected by the system when printed. At best, it will work with improper accuracy.

Why Is this not possible to Print the Tag?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to print the Visual Offset tag from a PDF because it must be laser-etched on a specific material to work reliably with the vision system. Regular paper or standard printing does not provide the consistency and surface properties required for accurate detection.

What is the Correct Way to Get a Tag?

Instead of printing it, you can order the official Visual Offset tags from Robotiq:

  • SKU: ACC-TAG-1BAG5

  • Contents: 5 × White Visual Offset tags

These tags are pre-calibrated, printed on the correct material, and guaranteed to function with your Robotiq Camera setup.

Conclusion

For accurate and consistent detection with Robotiq’s Visual Offset feature, always use the official tags. Printed copies from a PDF won’t work due to material requirements.
To avoid detection issues, order the tags using SKU ACC-TAG-1BAG5.
