Understanding the Difference Between UR10e and UR12e

Universal Robots has updated the naming of one of its e-Series cobots. Customers and integrators may notice the UR10e now appears as UR12e in documentation, quotes, or on the robot's nameplate, and want to know what changed. This article clarifies that the update is a naming change only. 

What changed?

• The UR12e is mechanically and technically identical to the UR10e.

• The only difference is the name.

• Universal Robots rebranded the UR10e to better reflect its true payload capacity of 12.5 kg.

Why did Universal Robots rename it?

• The "UR10e" name was misleading, suggesting a 10 kg payload.

• As the robot actually supports 12.5 kg, the new "UR12e" name aligns with UR's updated naming convention (e.g., UR3e, UR5e, UR20e).

Technical specifications (UR10e vs UR12e)

Is the UR12e compatible with my existing UR10e setup?

YES.

All software, accessories, URCaps, and Robotiq solutions that work with the UR10e are fully compatible with the UR12e. No functional updates are required for existing systems.

Do I need to update my documentation or programs?

• No changes are required for functionality.

• If you reference the robot model name in documentation or user training, you may choose to update that to UR12e for clarity.

Will the robot label or part number change?

• New units are labeled UR12e.

• The core part number may be updated by UR, but all mechanical and software interfaces remain unchanged.
