How to extand the E-Series coupling's cable ?

Options when you need longer reach for Robotiq e-Series couplings

Context

In certain applications—such as when a mounting bracket extends the robot wrist—the standard e-Series coupling cable may not be long enough. This article explains the available options, along with their limitations, so you can make the best choice for your setup.

Limitations of Extending the Cable

Robotiq does not provide longer e-Series coupling cables. Using an adapter is a possible workaround, but it is non-standard and not guaranteed to work reliably.

Option A – Use an M8 Adapter (Use with Caution)

Depending on your coupling model, you may use an M8 extension adapter:

  • GRP-ES-CPL-077 (new e-Series, female wrist)
→ Use an M8 female-to-male 8-pin adapter, wired according to the pinout diagram.

  • GRP-ES-CPL-062 (old e-Series, male wrist)
→ Use an M8 male-to-female 8-pin adapter, wired according to the pinout diagram.

⚠️ These adapters are not officially supported. Functionality may vary, and reliability is not guaranteed.

Option B – Switch to a CB-Series Coupling with 10 m Cable

A more reliable solution is to use a CB-Series coupling with a 10-meter cable. This configuration is officially supported by Robotiq and avoids the risks associated with adapters.

Conclusion

Extending the e-Series coupling cable is not officially supported. If you need more reach, the CB-Series coupling with a 10 m cable is the recommended option. If you choose to try an adapter, be aware that performance cannot be guaranteed.
