Day 3: What Knocked Our Socks Off Today @Automatica

Written by Alex Owen-Hill | Jun 23, 2016 7:16 PM

Day 3 of Automatica 2016 is over. Just one more day to go! Today, we enjoyed some of the sillier things that the trade fair had to offer.

It has been a great day here at Automatica. The sun is shining and we've seen loads of cool robot demos. This morning, we started the day by showing you the shiny table in our polishing demo, then we told you about a thought-provoking Hirebotics presentation. Finally, this afternoon, we found some familiar robot fingers and got to see the brand new Motoman HC10 Cobot.

You must be wondering how we can have had time to see anything else at Automatica today? Here are some of the other things that really knocked our socks off.

The Tiniest Gripper You Ever Saw

Our friend Enric Vila from Vico Systems surprised us today with the world's tiniest Robotiq Gripper. They had made a replica of our 2-Finger Gripper as a keyring. How cool is that!

An Artistic Denso Robot

After his starring role in this morning's demo video, Olivier's face was made famous once again when a Cobotta robot drew him at the Denso booth.

The Cobotta is a small collaborative robot from Denso, designed with desktop applications in mind.

The company showcased the first prototype back in November 2015. The robot was officially released in December at IREX 2015 in Japan, and witnessed by our friend Marcus Frei (who we are sharing our booth with here at Automatica).

Cobotta has a reach of only 310mm and weighs just 3.8kg. Its collaborative-safe speed is 250mm/s, but you could increase that to 1000mm/s with the addition of the appropriate safety sensors. It has been designed for easy integration and human-robot collaboration.

We saw Cobotta's demo in Hall B5, Booth 311. The system took a photo of the Olivier's face using a webcam, then the robot got artistic with a pen. Here's how it turned out. What do think?

Teddy Bears vs Ball Pools

When we saw the "robot in a pool of balls" booth yesterday, we thought we had seen the strangest booth at Automatica. However, it turns out we hadn't.

Today, we found a booth featuring a robot in a pool of teddy bears!

A Relaxing Evening in the Sun

This evening we decided to take it easy and have a relaxing meal in the sun. We're all pretty tired, but looking forward to the final day of Automatica 2016 tomorrow. Hope we see you there!
