Written by Mathieu Bélanger-Barrette | Mar 14, 2016 1:00 PM

Following the release of the ISO/TS 15066 and the popularity of our eBook on Collaborative Robot Risk Assessment; we thought it might be appreciated if we were to put them together. So, we have provided a colloquial view of the new technical specification and merged it into a new eBook. Since the tech spec is pretty dense and statistically oriented, it can be tough to understand. We have underlined the main features and tried to bring them to you in an insightful way in a convenient format.

ISO/TS 15066 - SO WHAT?

Collaborative robots are being scrutinize to determine their compatibility with many different standards. The ISO/TS 15066 is only one of several regulations that may apply to ensure worker safety when using collaborative robots. Previously ISO 10218 was the primary standard that was used in guiding collaborative robot safety. However, ISO 10218 was not particularly well matched to the power and force limited cobots that are popular today. In 2011 when the standard was adopted there were very few collaborative robots or applications actually in place. Therefore it is welcoming news that some precision and guidelines are now available for manufacturers and integrators of collaborative robots.

In this eBook we define a lot of different terms and provide common meanings. Since our goal is to help you integrate robots and free human hands from tedious tasks; we want you to use cobots as your coworkers. We want to get straight to the point with definitions that will help you figure out what is a risk assessment and how you can realize one.
